This month we honor Richard and Danielle Martinez’s family! They have two adult children, Richelle (21) and Andrew (20). Richard grew up in the Parish, attending school at Ss Simon & Jude Cathedral through 8th grade. Danielle attended St. Jerome's school just a few years behind him and just a few miles away. Richard and Danielle met when they were 19 and 21 and got married at St. Jerome's in 1996. Soon after, they registered at Ss Simon & Jude Cathedral as parishioners and raised their kids surrounded by an amazing group of friends, many of whom Richard grew up with. They became active volunteers over the years, first as organizing the yearly parish campout (13 yrs), hosting the coffee and donut fellowship after the 9:00 am mass (1 yr) and as committee chairs for the fall festival (3 yrs), then on to the Stewardship Committee and Parish Council (6 yrs). More recently, Danielle has been serving as an Ambassador and Richard as a Porter of St. Joseph. In October, Danielle also helped create and direct the 1st ever online Give-A-Thon which replaced the fall festival. Their children received all of their sacraments at Ss Simon & Jude Cathedral, attending public school closer to their home in Glendale. Richelle attended ROC and Youth Group and was able to help build a house with Mission 1 in high school. Andrew blazed a path in Special Olympics and continues to shine brightly in his adaptive programs, learning more independence as he gets older. Danielle does her best to stay by his side and support the programs that support him by serving as a board member for Raising Special Kids, volunteering at his sporting events and attending each IEP, therapy session, doctor visit or hospital stay. Additionally, they remain regular financial donors to Raising Special Kids, Special Olympics, Daring Adventures, One Step Beyond, CDA and the Ss Simon & Jude Cathedral Capital Campaign. In addition, for each real estate sale Danielle makes, she donates a portion of her commission to The Children's Miracle Network at Phoenix Children's Hospital.
Giving their time, talents, and treasure to Ss Simon & Jude Cathedral, no matter how small, is what they believe God is calling them to do. They love their Ss Simon & Jude Cathedral family, and we believe they will continue to serve in whatever capacity is needed, changing, and adjusting with the needs of our parish. We are grateful and blessed to know them and have them in our Parish!
